What is Interior Design?
Interior design is defined as the professional and comprehensive practice of creating an interior environment that addresses, protects, and responds to human need(s). It is the art, science, and business planning of a creative, technical, sustainable, and functional interior solution that corresponds to the architecture of a space, while incorporating process and strategy, a mandate for well-being, safety, and health, with informed decisions about style and aesthetics.
IIDA Mission Statement
IIDA is the association for the Commercial Interior Design profession. We provide meaningful resources to Commercial Interior Designers and their clients to advance the profession and enhance business value.
The IIDA vision is to enhance business value, solve problems, and positively impact the health and well-being of people’s lives through a greater understanding of interior design. IIDA is the voice for Commercial Interior Design. We elevate the value of the profession to clients and support Members as recognized leaders in the industry.
The IIDA Alabama Chapter Story
The IIDA Alabama Chapter is a very active small chapter with one main city center located in Birmingham as well as campus centers at Auburn University, Samford University, and The University of Alabama. Our Chapter offers a wide variety of professional development programs and networking events throughout the year to both our members and others in the commercial design community throughout the state.
Our calendar includes continuing education courses and forums, focused enrichment events for members, emerging professionals and student members, and fundraising functions and charitable drives supporting national and local beneficiaries. Thanks to generous support from our sponsors, we continue to explore new and unique opportunities to advance design in the State of Alabama.
